Paxlovid - Private Supply

Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (PAXLOVID™ - Pfizer) is an oral antiviral medication that has been approved for the treatment of acute symptomatic mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults 18 years of age and older who do not require initiation of supplemental oxygen due to COVID-19 and are at increased risk of progression to hospitalisation or death.

PAXLOVID can now be purchased from pharmacies under private supply. This provides a COVID-19 treatment option for the following groups of people, where clinically appropriate:

• Kiwis who do not meet Pharmac’s access criteria but may still benefit from treatment
• Kiwis planning to travel overseas
• Non-residents, including people travelling to New Zealand
• Others who wish to purchase PAXLOVID in advance as a precautionary measure

Pharmacists must complete the PSNZ training activity, 'Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir (Paxlovid®) – What a Pharmacist Needs to Know' to supply PAXLOVID privately.
