EPISODE 1 - INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGECAST

Welcome to the first episode of CollegeCast!

This is a trial podcast covering views and updates relevant to pharmacy practice. Over the next few weeks we will interview relevant people on topics such as codeine reclassification and the opioid crisis, stigma in mental health and health professional burnout. We will also talk to some pharmacists about current and new innovative services being offered in their pharmacies and the benefits of providing these services.

Episode 2 - Codeine reclassification and the opioid crisis

Welcome to Episode 2 of College Cast.

In this episode we will interview Carina Walters on codeine misuse and the opioid crisis, international trends in codeine consumption, the recent up-scheduling of codeine combination products in Australia and the current intentions on codeine re-classification in New Zealand.

Carina is currently a PhD student at the University of Auckland, where she is studying prescription and over the counter opioid dependence, and is a member of the University of Auckland Centre for Addiction research. Her previous role as as senior addictions pharmacist at Community Alcohol and Drug Services in Auckland. She is also a part time professional teaching fellow with the School of Population Health, teaching a postgraduate addiction paper.

Episode 3 - Stigma and discrimination in mental health_Part 1

Welcome to Episode 3 of CollegeCast.

In this episode we talk to Dr Claire O'Reilly about the stigma and discrimination patients experience from their health professionals. Claire explains her research on this topic including the prevalence of stigma and patient experiences.

Dr Claire O’Reilly is a Senior Lecturer at the The University of Sydney Pharmacy School. Claire is a pharmacist and health services researcher with expertise in mental health, as well as a practising community pharmacist and experienced mental health trainer (Master MHFA Instructor).

EPISODE 5 - burnout

Welcome to Episode 5 of CollegeCast.

In this episode we talk to Patrick J. Bridgeman Jr about burnout among health professionals. We will discuss what is burnout, how to recognise burnout, factors which may contribute to burnout and what we as individuals, colleagues and employers can do to support health and well-being.

Patrick J. Bridgeman, Jr. is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He has spoken nationally on topics including post-cardiac arrest therapeutic hypothermia, stroke, and rapid sequence intubation pharmacology. His current research interests include pharmacologic management of stroke, thrombolytic use in resuscitation, and strategies for optimizing professional resilience in the workplace. He is primary author on a recent commentary on professional burnout in pharmacy in the journal, AJHP (American Journal of Health- System Pharmacy).

EPISODE 6 - Interview with Diana Phone on roles and services

Welcome to Episode 6 of CollegeCast.

In this episode we will be talking to Diana Phone about some of her roles and services being provided at Waimauku Pharmacy. We will learn about the Community Pharmacy Anticoagulation Management Service (CPAMS), Medicine Use Review Service (MUR), the Own My Gout Project and hear about their relationship with their general practice team.
