Presented by:

Dr Massimo Giola

Dr Giola obtained his medical degree in 1991 at the University of Pavia (Italy) and specialised in Infectious Diseases in 1996 (Italy). He moved to New Zealand in 2009, was accepted for the FRACP in 2012, and completed the specialty training in Sexual Health Medicine in Auckland in 2015. He lives in Tauranga, working for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board as Consultant Physician and Clinical Lead of the Sexual Health Service. He has been the New Zealand representative in the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine since May 2018.

Course Information:

On completion of this course, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Describe the changing epidemiology of HIV in New Zealand
  • Explain challenges of the traditional prevention methods (condoms) and how to overcome them
  • Describe new biopharmacological prevention strategies – where to place them in context and how pharmacists can play a role
  • Practical skills for tomorrow – explain how to support your next client with an antiretroviral prescription, for treatment or for prevention.

Assessment:

Pharmacists must achieve an 80% pass mark in order to complete the course.

One learning package must be purchased for each individual to complete the course.

Group 1: TBC points – for listening to the webinar but not doing the assessment, or

Group 2: TBC points – for completion and submission of assessment questions (80% pass mark required).

Pre reading is not assessed. Allocate Group 1 points based on one point per hour.
