Associate Professor Lynette Sadleir

Associate Professor Lynette Sadleir joined the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Otago, Wellington in 1999 following the completion of an Epilepsy Fellowship at British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital. In 2000 she commenced the clinical part of her joint clinical-academic appointment as a paediatric neurologist with Capital Coast District Health Board. In her clinical role as a paediatric epileptologist, she diagnoses and manages children with epilepsy and reports paediatric electroencephalograms for the Wellington Region. She has an active teaching role and is passionate about increasing the epilepsy knowledge.

Associate Professor Sadleir is a physician scientist with expertise in epilepsy phenotyping. She is the Director of the Epilepsy Research Group. The Epilepsy Research Group is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals with epilepsy and their families.

Course Information:

On completion of this course on Epilepsy, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Describe the new International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) seizure and epilepsy classification
  • Explain the concept of epileptic encephalopathy
  • Recognise the importance of a genetic diagnosis for children with epileptic encephalopathies
  • Recognise therapy options for the epileptic encephalopathies including the ketogenic diet.

Assessment:

Pharmacists must achieve an 80% pass mark in order to complete the course.

One learning package must be purchased for each individual to complete the course.

Group 1: TWO points – for listening to the webinar but not doing the assessment, or

Group 2: FOUR points – for completion and submission of assessment questions (80% pass mark required).

Pre reading is not assessed. Allocate Group 1 points based on one point per hour.
