This course will covers privacy and confidentiality obligations that apply to pharmacists in their day-to-day practise. It explains what privacy is, what the Privacy Act covers and how to deal with personal information requests under the Privacy Act. You will also learn about the Health Information Privacy Code and how this affects your decision to release or withhold information. This course also covers how to avoid and how to respond to complaints made to the Privacy Commissioner.

  • Identify your obligations under the Health Information Privacy Code
  • Describe how to manage and respond to requests for information (including limits on disclosure and reasons for refusing)
  • Describe how to deal with complaints regarding the handling of information
