Urinary Tract Infections Management Accreditation Training - On Demand
Accreditation Course Obstetrics Gynaecology and Urinary Tract Disorders On Demand Women's Health
This training is designed to allow pharmacists to become accredited to supply either nitrofurantoin or trimethoprim, as appropriate to women, aged 16 – 65 years, for the treatment of uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
In 2012, trimethoprim was reclassified to enable pharmacists to supply trimethoprim to women in specified circumstances. With the current concerns regarding antimicrobial resistance in New Zealand, this training discusses the place of trimethoprim being provided in primary and secondary care.
Nitrofurantoin became the first line treatment for uncomplicated UTIs in 2021, and in 2022, was reclassified allowing nitrofurantoin supply by pharmacists for the first-line empiric treatment of uncomplicated UTI.
Only accredited pharmacists who successfully complete PSNZs 2022 training in the treatment of urinary tract infection management may supply nitrofurantoin or trimethoprim.
