In New Zealand the prevalence of hypertension is increasing to the point where nearly 25% of NZ adults live with hypertension (2020/21). Despite the known cardiovascular complications caused by hypertension, almost half of all people with hypertension do not have their blood pressure controlled.
New evidence-based guidelines recommend new thresholds and targets for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.
This module covers the incidence of hypertension in NZ, the risk factor both for and from hypertension, especially if it is not well controlled, the importance of managing lifestyle factors as part of treatment and the recommended guidelines for pharmacological therapy for hypertension.
