Professor Pauline Norris and Pharmacist Kasey Brown
Pauline Norris is Professor of Social Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, University of Otago. She has worked with Pacific colleagues on studies of medicines use, supervised Pacific students doing research, and been the School of Pharmacy’s support person for Pacific students for many years.
Kasey Brown is a clinical Pharmacist of Samoan descent. She is the Pacific Advisor to the School of Pharmacy Otago and works as a Clinical Pharmacist at Gisborne Hospital. One of Kasey's main passions is to bridge the gap in health disparities between Pacific Islanders and the rest of the NZ population by education and empowerment to the communities and health professionals.
This webinar was recorded in 2018 and was reviewed in 2020.
On completion of this course, pharmacists will be able to:
- Identify the variety of Pacific nationalities and cultures within NZ
- Describe patterns of ill-health within the Pacific communities
- Identify the importance of family and religion in Pacific culture
- Recognise the possible challenges in accessing medicines (and the health system) in NZ
- Identify tools/suggestions for improving interactions with our Pacific communities
A separate learning package must be purchased for each individual that requires assessment.
Group 1: ONE point – for watching the webinar but not successfully competing the assessment, or
Group 2: TWO points – for successful completion and submission of assessment questions (80% pass mark required). Pre reading is not assessed. Allocate Group 1 points based on one point per hour.
Competence Standards Addressed: M1.4, M2.1, O1.1.
