Presented by:

Dr Juliet Elvy

Juliet is a Clinical Microbiologist working for Wellington SCL and Medlab Nelson Marlborough. She trained in the UK and moved to New Zealand in 2012.

Her many roles include providing microbiology services and advice to hospital and community providers throughout the wider Wellington region as well as Nelson Marlborough, and other parts of the South Island and Auckland community through the Healthscope laboratory network.

She is a member of the NZ Microbiology Network, the NZ National Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Committee and is the current chair of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Microbiology Quality Assessment Program. Her interests include antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship and quality of microbiology services.

Course Information:

On completion of this course, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Identify the signs and symptoms of urinary tract infections (UTI’s)
  • List the side effects, contraindications and interactions of trimethoprim
  • Identify when the supply of trimethoprim is appropriate
  • Identify situations requiring referral to other health professionals
  • Advise and counsel patients who require trimethoprim
  • Describe the current antimicrobial resistance situation with regards to trimethoprim in New Zealand

Course Development:

The original course was developed in 2012, has been reviewed and updated in 2019 and is now presented as this live webinar.

Assessment:

Pharmacists must achieve an 100% pass mark in order to complete the course.

One learning package must be purchased for each individual to complete the course.

Group 1 and 2 points are measured in "points per hour of learning" you may allocate ENHANCE points following completion of the course, as follows:

Group 1: TWO points Group 2: FOUR points

Pre reading is not assessed. Allocate Group 1 points based on one point per hour.
