About the event

This course is provided by College Education and Training, a business unit of Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand Inc.

Presented by:

Dr Michelle Balm

Dr Michelle Balm is an Infectious Diseases Physician and Clinical Microbiologist based in Wellington, where she works at both Capital & Coast District Health Board and Wellington Southern Community Laboratories. Her undergraduate training was at Otago University.

Michelle’s interest in infectious diseases (ID) was confirmed after doing a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at Liverpool School of Tropical medicine and then volunteering with Medicins sans Frontiers in South Sudan. She completed her ID and Microbiology fellowships in Wellington and Singapore. These experiences made her passionate about preventing, diagnosing and managing infections, and led to a particular interest in antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship. She also loves coffee, her dog and beaches, and activities that can combine all three.
