Presented by: Dr Anna Fenton
Dr Anna Fenton is a Gynaecological Endocrinologist who completed a PhD in bone cell biology at the University of Melbourne. She was involved in establishing the New Zealand branch of the Australasian Menopause Society and has served on the board of Osteoporosis New Zealand. Anna is currently the clinical leader for the Canterbury District Health Board Bone Density Service. She is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Course Information:
On completion of this course, pharmacists will be able to:
- Describe the importance of osteoporosis as a medical problem
- Understand the pathophysiology of bone loss
- Describe techniques for measuring bone density
- Describe the role of clinical risk factors in the establishment of osteoporosis
- Recognise the role of fracture risk calculation in treatment selection
- Explain the variety of evidence-based treatment options available to treat osteoporosis
- Recognise the risks and benefits of osteoporosis therapies, particularly the bisphosphonates .
Assessment:
Pharmacists must achieve an 80% pass mark in order to complete the course.
One learning package must be purchased for each individual to complete the course.
Group 2 points will be available. Exact amount to be confirmed.
Pre reading is not assessed. Allocate Group 1 points based on one point per hour.
