John Carter is a Haematologist based in Wellington. He is an Associate Professor at the Wellington School of Medicine, University of Otago.

Course Information:

On completion of this course, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Describe clinical pharmacology of the main anticoagulants available in New Zealand and monitoring strategies for these agents.
  • Recognise the current main indications for these anticoagulants.
  • Recognise the main side-effects and contraindications of these anticoagulants.
  • Identify reversal agents and strategies to manage bleeding complications occurring in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy.
  • Discuss probable future changes in anticoagulant therapy.

Assessment:

Pharmacists must achieve an 80% pass mark in order to complete the course.

One learning package must be purchased for each individual to complete the course.

Group 2 points will be available. Exact amount to be confirmed.

Pre reading is not assessed. Allocate Group 1 points based on one point per hour.
