Oral Contraceptives

Oral Contraceptives

In 2017, selected oral contraceptives were reclassified allowing supply by pharmacists who have successfully completed the oral contraceptive training programme.

The reclassification enables registered pharmacists who have completed this training to supply the following selected oral contraceptives (SOCs) under strict criteria:

  • Ethinylestradiol (35mcg or less) combined with Levonorgestrel or Norethisterone.
  • Levonorgestrel, Norethisterone or Desogestrel alone.

College Education and Training provide the training programme for pharmacists to supply the reclassified oral contraceptives.

Interns are only able to purchase and complete this course after they have attended Assessment Centre.
